To celebrate World Bee Day (Friday 20th May 2022) Anthony Martin Estate Agents has put together this helpful guide to ensure you can remodel your garden or balcony (regardless of size) to support Bees and other vital wildlife.

One of the most important species that the nation is currently working hard to protect is the Honey Bee. Honey bees, as we know, are the first in the chain for pollinating plants and they also pollinate the food we need to survive. Bees also pollinate trees and flowers to keep them growing which provides habitats for wildlife.

There are several things that can be done to your garden to attract not only bees but other fascinating creatures.

Planting all season flowers around your garden - Flowers will not only make your garden attractive in the different seasons but also will provide nectar and pollen which is a vital energy source for bees to get back and forth from their homes. Avoiding pesticides is also very important for not only honey bees but nature too as the chemicals are toxic.

The most obvious addition to your garden to attract honey bees would be a beehive which can be attached to any trees in or around your garden. The benefit to you of having a beehive in your garden is that the bees will help to bloom wildflowers. Flowers in your garden have proven to elevate your mood and bring satisfaction of caring for your environment.

Other fun ways to encourage bees into your garden include;

  • Grow plants with nectar and pollen
  • Grow “woolly” plants
  • Create a Bee Hotel
  • Make Bee nests
  • Do not overly de-weed your garden

No matter the size of the garden any outdoor space can attract wildlife, which can be done in several ways including feeding birds regularly or providing a bird box in your garden with a water source to attract and keep them returning.

Bees are an imperative part of our ecosystem and it’s important to protect them.

Anthony Martin CEO and founder of Anthony Martin Estate says; “It’s important that we look after our plants and the environment around us, even if it's just by adding a simple addition to your garden. I want to raise awareness for protecting bees and wildlife because without these our planet ceases to exist.”
